Childhood & Early Life
Michael Jeffrey Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 17, 1963, to James and Deloris. His father worked in the electrical equipment industry while his mother worked as a banker. His family with four other kids settled down in Wilmington, North Carolina.
He started his love for sports such as football, baseball, and basketball when he went to Wilmington’s ‘Emsley A. Laney High School. During his school time, he wanted to join a basketball team but being rejected due to the height.
Instead of giving up, he participated in the school’s junior basketball team and worked hard to improve his height. After his impressive results, Michael Jeffrey Jordan was selected for the best of all high school basketball teams in the country named McDonald’s All-American Team.
He then played for college teams such as North Carolina, Virginia, Duke, and Syracuse. Thanks to his excellent performance in basketball, he was offered a scholarship by the University of North Carolina in 1981.
At the university, he had chances to work with the famous basketball coach Dean Smith and was titled the Freshman of the Year by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Personal Life & Legacy
Michael Jeffrey Jordan married Jaunita Vanoy in 1989. However, they separated after 17 years of marriage. He had to pay $168 million for his former wife after the separation. They had two sons, namely Jeffrey and Marcus, who are both basketball players.
He then got married to model Yvette Prieto on April 27, 2013, at the Bethesda-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church after quite some time of dating. After one year, they had twin daughters, namely Victoria and Ysabel.
He is so famous that he has become the ambassadors for several big brands such as McDonald’s, Wheaties, Chevrolet, Nike, Hanes, Coca-Cola, and Gatorade.
